Speed Issue

Hello,

I have a macbook intel core 2 duo, 2.0 Ghz, 1 GB RAM .

When I originally had Parallels running Windows XP, the speed was phenomenal. Started right up and ran fine with other programs running.

I ran into some issues running Illustrator CS 2 (couldn't save files). I couldn't figure anything out, so I reinstalled Windows XP. Now it takes forever to load and slows down my system a ton. Any idea why it's doing this now? I don't even have any installed on my Windows side yet.

Have you tried running any OS X maintnence with a good utility like Onyx or re-indexing and/or defragmented your disk with a program like DiskWarrior? I've seen systems go from a crawl to a steady clip by doing these two simple things.

Also, have you upgraded your Parallels build at all? Furthermore, tweak your RAM allocations... A lot of people find giving a dedicated 256 MB to XP is good for a 1 GB config if you want to do much of anything in the OS X system.

I am, personally, one of those obssessive 'get 2 GB for your system' heads, and recommend that even for an OS X only computer... Why? It runs much more smoothly. Plus, if you do run something like Parallels it keeps things running smoothly on both platforms... If you get a build that plays nice with your Kernel.

Finally, not to be rude, but there have, and are, numerous discussions on this very issue... This is the third one I got involved in today. ;) I guess searching for this topic is sortof tough though... Browse around. Welcome to the forum!
 
As I seem to recall off of the top of my head there are two ways...

Preferences -> Tab 'Memory' Set the allocation to manual.

The second is on the properties pane, that is, when you Parallels Virtual Machine is not running. there is something that should make reference to your RAM allocation that you can click on and change. This is, I have found, the most important one.
