Start-up error in Leopard

'Morning all,

I receive the following error when trying to start-up Parallels:

Parallels Desktop is unable to operate properly since it cannot communicate with one of its drivers. Try to restart the application to overcome this issue. If restart doesn't help, re-install Parallels Desktop. Note that Parallels drivers require a short time to be properly started and initialized. So you may need to wait a minute before trying to launch the application.

I've restarted both the application and the computer. No luck.

Interestingly, I received this same error when working with Parallels 2.x after installing Leopard. An upgrade to 3.0 fixed the problem, although apparently not permanently.

I have made one change to the machine since I last started Parallels: my SuperDrive was replaced by Apple. Is there anything I can do other than uninstalling and then re-installing Parallels? If not, what's the best way to uninstall Parallels? (I don't yet have the full CD -- upgraded via download.)

Hello,

what Parallels Desktop build are you using? It is better to have the latest one, 5582.
PD Uninstallation routine is described here. Please, try to reinstall Parallels Desktop and see if it solves the issue.

Yes, I am running build 5582. I'll (grudgingly) uninstall and reinstall Parallels. But what if this error occurs again after the clean install?

Hi Alicia,

New information. I opened the DMG package for Desktop 3.0 to run "Uninstall Parallels Desktop" but received the following error message:

"You do not have Parallels Desktop installed on your computer."

But, of course, I do. Build 5582.

Your advice?

Looks like the reinstall worked. I've saved the DMG file in the event I need it for future reinstalls.
