Stopped VM but now can't start it again

I launched my Windows XP VM earlier and it whent through the normal opening sequence, but then changed to a black screen. I tried to stop the VM, but now it seems to be stuck in this mode. Only Stop and Config are live in the Virtual Machine menu.

I restored yesterday's VM via Time Machine, but it makes no difference. Any ideas?
 
My second VM I have Office 2007 on put up a message warning me that there wasn't enough memory to start it, so I restarted my Mac and all was solved.
