Well, this does install the tools, and I guess a tiny screen is ok. I hope someone figures out how to get a larger screen Thanks fbronner
Awesome. This fixed my Kubuntu Gutsy install. I know this is a SuSe thread, so sorry for intruding, but this may be a common issue against all Linux Distro's with that version of xorg. Anyway, Thanks!
Has anyone figured out how to get suse working with a reasonably sized screen? from a consumers point of view, this flaw has Parallels looking very very very bad. Why should I recommend a buggy non useable product when the alternative works with no troubles. Come on Parallels team, I am on YOUR side for now, even a glimmer of hope that these problems will be addresses will help.
BarryP13@mac.com, Parallels team works hard to improve screen size in Suse. Currently you can change the size by the means of your Guest OS. Thank you for your reports. Please sorry for the inconvenience caused. Best regards, Xenos
Thanks Xenos. can you tell me how to do this? I have tried within Suse, but I loose the tools when I change the screen resolution.
Hello BarryP13@mac.com, What do you mean by loosing Tools? If there are some problems with Parallels Tools, you should probably reinstall them. Edited: Wrong answer. Deleted in order to avoid confusion. Best regards, Xenos
BarryP13@mac.com, please sorry for the confusion. Had a hard day, head whiz. Please, follow these instructions to improve your screen resolution. Best regards, Xenos
I've had days like that also, but that file might as well have been written in Klingon. can you please translate it into steps I can follow? for example: "In the config file for grub menu.lst boot loader," what is the NAME of the file? and Where do i find it?
BarryP13@mac.com, here is the path to the file in your Guest OS: /boot/grub/menu.lst To run xmode, type it in Console and press Enter. xorg.conf configuration is here: /etc/X11/xorg.conf Best regards, Xenos
I don't have anything remotely resembling "modeline" in my xorg.conf file NOW I understnad the power of the Mac. none of this crap is needed to get a working system
Can you see something of this sort in your xorg.conf file: Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Samsung" ModelName "Monitor Model" HorizSync 30 - 81 VertRefresh 56 - 75 # 1600x1200 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 74.52 kHz; pclk: 160.96 MHz Modeline "1600x1200_60.00" 160.96 1600 1704 1880 2160 1200 1201 1204 1242 -HSync +Vsync # 1600x1200 @ 62.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 77.07 kHz; pclk: 166.46 MHz Modeline "1600x1200_62.00" 166.46 1600 1704 1880 2160 1200 1201 1204 1243 -HSync +Vsync EndSection ? Best regards, Xenos
nothing like that in xorg.conf here is file: # X.org configuration file generated by Parallels Tools Section "Files" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/local" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Type1" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/URW" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Speedo" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/PEX" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/cyrillic" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/latin2/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/latin2/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/latin2/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/latin2/Type1" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/latin7/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/baekmuk:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/japanese:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/kwintv" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/truetype" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/uni:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/CID" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/ucs/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/ucs/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/ucs/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/hellas/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/hellas/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/hellas/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/hellas/Type1" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/misc/sgi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/xtest" FontPath "/opt/kde3/share/fonts" InputDevices "/dev/gpmdata" InputDevices "/dev/input/mice" EndSection Section "ServerFlags" Option "AllowMouseOpenFail" "on" Option "Xinerama" "True" EndSection Section "Module" Load "dbe" Load "type1" Load "freetype" Load "extmod" Load "glx" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Driver "kbd" Identifier "Keyboard[0]" Option "Protocol" "Standard" Option "XkbLayout" "us" Option "XkbModel" "microsoftpro" Option "XkbRules" "xfree86" EndSection # Parallels mouse driver Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Parallels Mouse" Driver "prlmouse" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Protocol" "auto" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "Buttons" "9" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Name" "ImExPS/2 Generic Explorer Mouse" Option "Protocol" "explorerps/2" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" Option "SendCoreEvents" "yes" EndSection #Parallels monitor Section "Monitor" Identifier "Parallels Monitor" VendorName "Parallels Inc." BarryP13@mac.com, please sorry for the delay. Let's look at unit 3 of the article. Here is what you should type in Console: xmode -x 1024 -y 768 -r 80 You are expected to get something like this: 1024x768 @ 80.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 64.32 kHz; pclk: 88.50 MHz Modeline "1024x768_80.00" 88.50 1024 1088 1200 1376 768 769 772 804 -HSync +Vsync Please copy this line and paste it in your xorg.conf file in Section "Monitor" before the line "EndSection". Restart the guest OS. Best regards, Xenos
I get 64 80 Modeline "1024x768" 88.50 1024 1088 1200 1376 768 769 772 804 I will post the modeline into xorg.conf and see what happens
I even tried 1024x768 @ 80.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 64.32 kHz; pclk: 88.50 MHz Modeline "1024x768" 88.50 1024 1088 1200 1376 768 769 772 804 804 -HSync +Vsync but got dumped into safe mode, so i edited out the 1st and 3d lines. next suggestion? fyi, I get full screen in Fedora 7 and Ubuntu 710
Hello BarryP13@mac.com, You are right, the article has gone out of date. Parallels team apologizes for misleading you. I'm consulting our engineers to get proper instructions. Will let you know as soon as I get them. I'm awfully sorry for this confusing support. Best regards, Xenos
BarryP13@mac.com, here is a simple way: Please open Computer -> Control Center -> Graphics Card and Monitor. Press "Change" button and choose the proper Monitor type and resolution. Click OK. Restart your VM. Waiting for the feedback. Best regards, Xenos
