I am a long time Windows user, brand new Mac user (new MacBook Pro/Snow Leopard). The Apple Store recommended Parallels Desktop 6 Switch to Mac Edition for running the few windows programs I can't live without. Because I am a Mac novice and converting from Windows, I think they rightly suggested the "Switch to Mac Edition," but now, after a fair amount of reading of the install and user guides for Desktop 6, I think I do NOT want to just "move my PC over," to my new Mac. I have a small handful of programs (Quicken, a couple of others) that I want to run on the MAC and do NOT want to bring my "whole PC" over with all the miscellaneous detritus and junk. It's running XP and running a little buggy (what's new). I have a brand new oem copy of XP SP3 for an install and I'd rather do a clean install and setup of an XP VM and install my couple of windows programs. I've already moved over all my Outlook data via iPhone synch (running Office:mac 2011 and sadly the Outlook in that synchs very imperfectly with my iPhone4, but my datas all there in Outlook or Mail). I'm happily doing mail, browser and Office on the Mac and just want a Windows VM for a few essentials. So, I opened my box of Parallels Desktop6 "Switch to Mac Edition", and the startup card makes it sound like the ONLY thing I can do is a more or less hands off transfer of my PC to a Mac VM??? If that is the case, then I have the WRONG EDITION of Parallels Dekstop, I guess??? (does it really move your old Windows OS over? is that legal??) So, I'm hoping someone out there can help me out with the particular features and differences of the "Switch" Edition. As far as the tutorial on Mac use, etc., I'm fine with that, but I don't want to start this install and find out that the ONLY thing I can do here is transfer over my old PC. I guess maybe I can do that and then set up another VM (I assume) with the clean install, but that seems an unnecessary waste of time and resources (though maybe the details of setting up the clean new XP SP3 VM are A LOT more complicted??) Anyone want to give me some advice before I start this install and end up finding my answers "under fire," so to speak! Comments appreciated. Willyjp
