Tab key activates Start Menu in guest OS

I'm trying to type ordinary text in the guest OS. Every time I type a Tab key in the guest OS (Windows XP Pro in this case), instead of getting a tab in my text, the Start Menu pops open. After that, the guest OS gets stuck in a mode where every letter key I type acts as though it were typed after an Alt key. So far I have been unable to find a way to alter this behavior.

MacBookPro - Leopard OS (10.5.1)

Does this happen to anybody else? Does anyone have a clue how to alter this behavior?

Please try to turn off Universal Access functions for a while. Will this change something?

Turning off UA modifies but does not fix behavior

Thanks for the suggestion. I turned off Universal Access. Now the Tab key no longer opens the Start menu, but it still does not type a tab. Instead, the new behavior is that it rotates among the various open programs on the TaskBar.

So I still cannot type a Tab key in the guest OS.

Do you probably have TypeIt4Me installed on your Mac?

Your intuition is right on

Yes, I do. I use it every day. I guess there is some kind of interaction? I did try turning off Universal Access, and that did fix the problem with the guest OS in Parallels, but it killed Typeit4me.

Is there any way around this other than turning either Universal Access or Typeit4me off every time I use Parallels? (which is also every day.)
