Thought I had Boot Camp-independent VM. But apparently don't.

I ran Windows 7 under Boot Camp on my Mac for some time. Then installed Parallels 6, and successfully set up a VM to access the Boot Camp partition. I started to run into space problems (small partition), so decided to import its contents into a new VM that was not on the Boot Camp partition.

The process seemed to succeed, but AFAIK my new VM is still storing files on the Boot Camp partition instead of my OS X partition. I keep getting the same messages that I've got << 1 GB available on my small Boot Camp partition. I have about 300 GB of space available under OS X, so I know that wouldn't be a problem!

Is there a setting somewhere that makes it absolutely clear where one will be storing the files? My .pvm files are all either on my Mac desktop or in my Mac Parallels folder, but I know they'd be there anyway (e.g., even if the VM was only accessing the Boot Camp partition.) I really thought I'd told Parallels to create the new VM on the Mac side -- in fact, went through this twice -- but to no avail.

So -- what am I overlooking? Any advice appreciated!

I don't know what type of disk image is created with this type of migration, but it sounds like it created a fixed sized (non-expanding) disk that matched your BC partition size. Shut down the VM, and in the VM configuration under Hardware, see if you can Edit the size of the disk image and make it expanding.

Thanks, Steve! It seems to already be set up as "Expanding disk, 465.8 GB."

I'm trying to figure out which partition it's installed on. I do know, from Apple Disk Utility, that my Mac OS is on disk 0, partition 2 and my Boot Camp on disk 0, partition 4. In the Parallels configuration menu, the location is given only as SATA 0:1. This also appears to be the location of my Boot Camp drive, but since I'm not a hardware person, I can't figure out whether this means they're using the same partition or are merely on the same physical drive.

Is it possible that I have to set some parameters from the Windows end? (Additional note: A lot of the files on my Boot Camp partition are, I think, just Micro-junk -- orphaned drivers, etc. -- from automatic updates, but since I'm not a regular Windows user, I haven't really made an effort to clean them up.)
