transition between full screen

When I transition between full screen mode, it's not a very smooth transition. Going into XP, it gets choppy and bitmappy, or it goes crazy and resizes everything - or it flashes a quick view of OS X in the middle of the transition. It looks fine after a couple seconds, but it doesn't look very smooth - no matter what transition I use.

I'm using a Macbook Pro, so I should have enough video card power to pull this off better.

Anyone else having this issue? Anyone know of a fix?
