Ubuntu (6.10) Linux problems / crashes?

I keep getting a situation when I have clicked a menu, or I am dragging an item and the mouse pointer stays in that state and will not let me click on anything else, although I can still move it.

Example:
1. Clicked on a folder on the desktop.
2. I dragged to top right corder (mouse pointer has top left pointing arrow to indicate dragging)
3. I drop the folder
4. The mouse pointer still shows dragging mode
5. I can move around but not click on anything.
6. I stop and restart the VM to fix.

This is random, happened earlier when I clicked the System menu - the menu never opened and the mouse pointer changed to a hand and can be moved around but not click anything.

The only solution I have had is to stop the VM and restart, this is very annoying - it also happened with beta 2.

I have filed 2 bugs reports form within Parallels.

I've experienced this problem in Ubuntu also. I suspect that it can be fixed within Ubuntu by tweaking some configuration files, but I never spent the time on it. I found that I preferred the Xubuntu flavor of Ubuntu 6.10 which had almost no mouse issues that I can remember. If you find that Ubuntu has too much flakiness/bugginess, I would recommend that you switch to the Debian Etch distro. Debian isn't quite as easy to set up, but it is VERY stable. The current version of Etch is rc1, final release due soon. Ubuntu is based on Debian so you can customize a Debian setup to be almost identical to Ubuntu.

By the way, it IS possible to deal with the mouse freeze without rebooting, but you need to use keyboard commands to bring up a terminal, terminate your desktop environment, and restart the X server, but rebooting is probably simpler!
 
I just set up ubuntu in 1970 and it's been stable so far. The only mouse issue I saw was when switching from full screen back to windowed and for some reason I had two mouse cursors - one Mac and one ubuntu, and they moved together. Neither one would click on anything. I rebooted the VM and all was fixed, and the problem has not reoccurred.

Thanks, glad I am not the only one with this issue - please file a bug report, so it gets looked in to.

I am only playing with Linux, I have tried several versions and none worked when installed, corrupt screen - Ubuntu actually works!
