Ubuntu 7.10 network via MacBook Pro (new w/ multitouch)

I find it frustrating that nearly all online support/postings for Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) network setup on a MacBook Pro just say, "it should just work". Sure, it does work with a wired LAN connection.

However, with my MacBook Pro (4,1 w/ Penryn), the network connection in Ubuntu 7.10 running in Parallels 3 (5584) does not connect to the Internet or any network via the MacBook Pro's AirPort card.

I currently have my Ubuntu VM network configuration set to Bridged Ethernet and connected to en1: Airport/Wireless Adapter (based on support details in other posts). The VM network adapter is the Realtek 8029(AS)I also have the network connected to "Wired Network" using the network configuration icon at the top-right of Ubuntu.

The simplistic "it should just work" responses conflict with the other responses about the new MacBook Pro AirPort cards requiring Broadcom drivers instead of the drivers that have worked with past MacBook Pros. Should I be trying to install the Dell WinXP R151517 driver in Ubuntu to make it work?

Ultimately, I would like my connection to the Internet to "just work" via when my MacBook Pro is connected to a wireless LAN. There seem to be no comprehensive troubleshooting tips or step-by-step setup instructions that have worked for me. If you can help figure out the problem, or can link me to a solution, I would be grateful.

It is not necessary to install any drivers in your Ubuntu.

For getting AirPort connection to work you need:

1) Switch it on in Mac
2) Change VM's network mode in Parallels Desktop to Shared Networking
3) Reactivate/activate network connection in Ubuntu (or just reboot VM).

Thank heavens for concise and specific information. My hangup was the need to fully restart the VM and not just switch the connection type to shared in the bottom right corner of Parallels. Macs make network connection switching so seamless, that I thought a restart was necessary if Ubuntu's connectivity through Parallels was ultimately relying on the host OS's connection.
