Hi, I'm using Parallels Desktop 18 on macOS 12.6 using MacBook M1. I installed latest Ubuntu LTS and I have this problem described in the title -- I press [Shift] + [`] for tilde and > (right angle bracket) is rendered; same for only a backtick [`] -- < (left angle bracket) is displayed. The problem happens no matter which keyboard layout I use. I'm desperate -- those buttons are essential for me as a programmer. Any help appreciated!
I'm seeing the same behaviour on MacBook M1. I tried Ubuntu 20.04, 22.04, Arch Linux, and on all of them tilde key produces angle brackets. I've been using Parallels since 17 (or maybe even 16), currently on 18. It happened on macOS 12 as well as on latest 13.5.1. I use Polish keyboard layout on both host and in guest. Judging by OP's name, PawelM4, I suspect it's also Polish layout there. What I found so far is that when I switch layout to "USA" on macOS then tilde key works fine in the guest, which is (slightly annoying) workaround.
I just installed Ubuntu 20.04 (w/o GUI) on Parallels Desktop for Mac 19 running on my 14-inch MacBook Pro M1. All was working well until I tried a command that needed the tilde. It typed the angle character. The backslash types the tilde. But Sift-2 does not type the @ character and I used one in my password and I can't relogin after a restart. Is there a non-GUI Ubuntu 20.04 that does not do this?
Hello, As a possible solution, kindly follow the below steps: 1. Make sure that the virtual machine is shut down. If it is in a suspended state, please run it and then shut down (Actions > Shut Down). 2. Quit Parallels Desktop (click Parallels icon on the top Mac menu (||) > Quit Parallels Desktop). 3. Run Terminal (Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal) and execute the following command: defaults write 'com.parallels.Parallels Desktop' 'HID Host Hook.Force Kbd Type' -int 1 4. Turn on the Ubuntu virtual machine and verify if the issue is still present. Thank you.
I think I figured it out. I'm using a MacMini M2 and installed Ubuntu 22.04 Desktop (GUI) for reference. Within the virtual machine (i.e. Ubuntu OS) Go to Settings > Keyboard. Saw where it says Input Sources both: - German - English (US) were added as keyboard layouts and input methods. Since I'm North American I don't need German so I removed the German input source by clicking on the three dots button and clicking on 'Remove' option. After that tilde, backtick, @ sign, etc. started working correctly on my terminal.
I corresponded with the Parallels engineering team for several hours in total. In the end, they told me that since my computer is a Mac Pro 5,1 (Open Core Martin Lo), it is classified as a Hackintosh and is not supported by them. Frankly, I don't consider the original Mac Pro to be a Hackintosh. However, I believe that Apple pursues a harmful policy towards its users, aimed at deceit, whereby they could themselves provide new operating systems for older computers. Let's be honest, this is possible, given that I am currently using macOS Monterey on this computer. Unfortunately, by stating that they also do not support these systems, Parallels joins this policy. At the moment, I am still using a script I shared on GitHub, and it works. The script adjusts keyboard settings, which are apparently configured incorrectly.
Insuzo provides leading testing and measurement equipment in the form of the Insulation Tester 1000V and the Laser Distance Meter 100m. The Insulation Tester 1000V tests insulation resistance up to 1000V in electrical systems for safety and reliability in high-voltage settings. Meanwhile, the Laser Distance Meter 100m gives accurate distance measurement up to 100 meters for constructional and surveying purposes and other measurement-intensive tasks. Both are designed to meet standards of accuracy and durability while remaining very user-friendly, making Insuzo a reliable brand for experts in different fields.
I have original MBP Apple M2 Max. I have the exact problems. When this issue will be corrected? I am frankly speaking thinking about asking them to give back my money and switch to Virtual Box. This is ridiculous, a bug not fixed for 3 years already.
MarcinS8, I had a video meeting with Parallels Support and after hour they wash they washed their hands of it, when realize that I have MacPro cMP 5,1 but with OSX Monterey. Typically a corporate, unprofessional approach. It was noted that someone worked on it, the issue wasn't resolved, but it doesn't have to be, because someone has a newer system than they should... Kind of a joke. I'm still using my scripts posted on github.
