Ubuntu server doesn't see network. Parallels or Ubuntu?

I've installed Ubuntu server 9.04 in a Paralells VM. Apt-get and wget aren't able to see the internet, so I can't update it.

Can you please tell me if I should try doing something in Parallels? Or is this now just an Ubuntu problem, and I can go seek Ubuntu help.

* I've set this to Bridged Networking: Default Adapter, as that is what another Ubuntu (desktop) VM is using. Yes, that desktop-Ubuntu VM still sees the network just fine.
According to /etc/network/interfaces, which still has its default settings, the server is using DHCP.
* When I installed the OS, I chose the additional SSH server options, since I want to use svnserve (subversion server) on this box. I didn't install any other additional options.
* I have successfully installed Parallels Tools.
* This is Parallels 5, build 558741 on a Mac Pro running OS X 10.4.11

I'm not very familiar with CLI networking setup, so I'd be happy if you include pointers or details with any advice you can give.

Looks like a Parallels problem to me. Ubuntu didn't even recognize that there is a network adapter available. The only device available in System->Administration->Network Tools was the loopback adapter.

What was strange was that everything came up fine after installation. It was only after shutting down and restarting that I lost the network.

For me, reinstalling Parallels Tools has fixed it. I know that you said that you've installed Parallels Tools but so had I, and reinstalling did the trick. No idea why, just putting it out there in hopes that it might help.
