udating to windows xp from 98

Hello
I have just installed parallels on my mac
I have Microsoft 98 and an upgrade to windows xp
Is it possible to simply install 98 onto parallels on the mac and then upgrade it
Is this straightforward
As this is something I am doing in work I need to know upfront that there will not be any problems
