Unable to add a network printer.

I have a network printer that I cannot find or add in Parallels. I have a bridged Ethernet setting. I can see and access other network clients.

The printer is on-line and works just fine from the Mac side.

This problem is identical on two different Macs with Parallels.

I am using Parallels build 5584 on one Mac and build 5608 on the other.

I have been through the help manual forward and backward and can't find any additional help.

Thanks for your reply. We have firewalls and anti virus turned off.

It is peculiar in that we can get access to our Mac OSX server and see its volumes, but we can't add our network printer (it is directly connected to the network with its own IP address), nor can we get e-mails out of the outbox (MS Outlook).

We have tried both shared and bridged Ethernet.

Thanks for your comments.

I bought a support call with Parallels tech support yesterday. The solution was to add a printer using the following Windows procedures:


Go to add a printer
Choose "local printer attached to this computer"
DESELECT "automatically detect and install my plug and play printer"
In "Select a Printer Port" choose "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" from the pull down tab
click next until you get to the Add Port window.
Enter the IP address of the printer in the Printer Name or IP Address field, and enter a name for the printer in the Port Name field (a default name will be entered if you don't put a name in)
Install printer software/drivers from drivers on the computer or from a cd/dvd
click next until the process is complete

This process added the network printer that I could not see any other way.

The basic VM settings: bridged ethernet and DHCP (sometimes has to be renewed/repaired)

Fixed!

I know that a lot of Parallels "issues" are in fact Windows issues. In this case, Parallels tech support was very helpful in resolving my issue.

I posted the sequence above in the case that someone else has/had the same problem and (like me) isn't a Windows guru.

I'm trying to add a printer to Windows 7 Pro. I am running an iMac and Parallels 8. I have the printer hooked up to one of the usb ports on the back of the monitor. When I plug it in there, I'm given the open of assigning it to the Mac, the VM, or Windows. I've chosen windows. I've been unable to get it installed.

I've tried the quoted procedures but when I get to Enter the IP address, I don't know what it is. The printer is an Epson R1800, BTW. How are the ip addressed assigned and how do I find out what they are?

I forgot to mention the printer isn't installed in the mac either, but I'm not trying to install it there. While it would be nice to have it in both locations, I'd settle for windows. Should I have installed it over on the mac side first?

I ended up calling Parallels tech support and they got my R1800 going. What they had me do was to install it on the mac and set it as the default printer. Now it is available in windows. I've got two printers and according to tech, which ever one I want to use in windows needs to be the default printer in the mac, which is no big deal.

However, I've run into a new problem. Even though I downloaded the latest printer for windows (64 bit), many of the printer settings are missing. Only very basic settings are available. Is this being caused by Parallels?
