Thinking out loud here, looking for a workaround to the USB issues with Parallels short of, you know, them actually fixing the problem, please bear with me....

In a previous thread it was noted that a USB storage device could be recognized by a Parallels VM after it is unmounted in OS X. This is straight forward for storage devices.

It is possible to unmount a non-storage USB device in OS X? In my case, a smart card reader?

I'm running a Macbook Pro, when I attach the smart card reader to a USB port, and open system profiler, I see the smart card reader there, OS X has recognized it.

Going to the devices, USB menu in Parallels and attempting to select the device results in the 5-10 sec error message.

Is the OS X (presumably system) process preventing the Parallels VM from grabbing it?

If it were unmounted from OS X would the Parallels VM running XP be able to grab it?

    Is this possible? Applescript experts?

    Thanks in advance
