updated from parallels 11 to 12 in Mac sierra and now mac crashes when i open parallels

I have a macbook pro 13 and used to use parallels 11 with windows 7 in it. i didnt have any major issues but the mac used to crash with different panic reports once a month whenever i open parallels. i updated parallels to 12 and mac os to sierra and my vm stopped working completely. i uninstalled parallels and now whenever i try to reinstall i get the below panic report or the panic report regarding clearing an already cleared memory. i have tried rebuilding permissions, repair disk but it hasn't helped me.

This solution by Elric (Parallels Developers) resolved it.

There is a way to workaround this, though, but it involves editing of the Parallels Desktop configuration file, which could be complicated.

1. Exit the Parallels Desktop
2. Start the /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app
3. Execute in terminal the command "cp /Library/Preferences/Parallels/network.desktop.xml ." (without quotest)
4) Execute in terminal command
open /Applications/TextEdit.app ./network.desktop.xml
will open the TextEdit with configuration file

5) Search the file for sections <ParallelsAdapter dyn_lists=""> and change in them value
<Enabled>1</Enabled> to be <Enabled>0</Enabled>. Save the file
6) execute command "sudo cp ./network.desktop.xml /Library/Preferences/Parallels/" (it will ask for the password)

These steps should workaround the kernel panic

I'm having a similar issue - whenever I open Parallels Desktop, my Mac crashes and it seems to be related to Kernel Panic.

For some reason step 4 is not working - when I type "open /Applications/TextEdit.app ./network.desktop.xml" into Terminal I get the message that the file doesn't exist.

Can you please help?

Please uninstall any Citrix software on the Mac, then run the following commands in Terminal:
sudo kextunload -b com.citrix.driver.net6im
sudo kextunload -b com.deterministicnetworks.driver.dniregistry
sudo kextunload -b com.deterministicnetworks.driver.dne
Then just start Parallels Desktop and VM.

 

Thanks! The 2nd command didn't work but I'm now able to open Parallels and the VM.

Not sure how you could tell I had Citrix installed..

 

We are glad the issue is resolved now. Our developers found that the kernel panic is caused due to the Citrix driver, so we have suggested you to uninstall it and check.

Hi NicholasK2,
We still see the drivers on the panic report. Please run the following commands in Terminal and delete the traces:
sudo kextunload -b com.citrix.driver.net6im
sudo kextunload -b com.deterministicnetworks.driver.dniregistry
sudo kextunload -b com.deterministicnetworks.driver.dne
Then just start Parallels Desktop and Check.

 

I had the same issue:
1. Edited the XML as instructed.
2. Upgraded Citrix Receiver to 12.5
Now seems to work.

 

Unfortunately I still cannot run the second command - and get the below message in Terminal:

(kernel) Can't remove kext com.deterministicnetworks.driver.dniregistry; services failed to terminate - 0xdc008018.
Failed to unload com.deterministicnetworks.driver.dniregistry - (libkern/kext) kext is in use or retained (cannot unload).

Any idea on this?

• Quit Parallels Desktop.

i did the terminal and restarted. then it crashed again upon boot. i have not had the chance to reinstall the app.

We see the drivers on the which caused the panic on the report. Please run the following commands in Terminal and delete the traces:
sudo kextunload -b com.citrix.driver.net6im
sudo kextunload -b com.deterministicnetworks.driver.dniregistry
sudo kextunload -b com.deterministicnetworks.driver.dne
Then just start Parallels Desktop and Check. You can also upgrade Citrix Receiver then check.
