Thx, It seems to be working. What is the proper method for running the process when it stop updating and requires that the update be 'manual process'?

It depends on what you see on the VM screen after that. Just post your observations here, I will advise.

So now I have the VM seeingly up and running but it seemed to stop converting after step 2 - exactly at the point that caused the original error. I can move the mouse within the VM but cannot move it outside (eg back to the mac).

Should I reboot the VM? How do I get it to complete the four steps of the update process. I don't think it has ever gotten past step 2

Tools are not installed but it doesn't give me the option in the VM menu to install it (it's greyed out)

Do you see anything related to Parallels inside your VM? Any installer or any message with Parallels logo?

No, but when I restart Parallels and VM, it restarts the upgrade process.

Does it restart from step 1?

Yes. It starts at step one and goes to two step two. After a few minutes it goes into the VM with and never completes steps three or four. At which point I restart the VM and then the whole process starts over

    Weird.

Please Help->Report a problem and provide me with its ID. I need to see the new log.

    Thanks.

I see from the log that your VM does not have a CD/DVD-ROM device. Please:

    1. Make sure your VM is stopped.
    2. Go to Virtual Machine->Configure... menu
    3. Press "+" icon below the devices list to the left.
    4. Double-click the "CD/DVD-ROM" icon in the window appeared and follow the wizard.
    5. Once CD/DVD-ROM added, start the VM to proceed with upgrade.

I'm looking forward to your results

I'm out of power so it will have to be tonight before I attempt the update again. My Macbook Air has an external CD drive so should I have the CD Drive plugged in for the update? In PD3, it wasn't required for the install but would give me an error message upon boot that the CD was missing

I think for the upgrade time you'd better plug in your external CD/DVD drive, and add CD/DVD device to VM configuration after that.

Thank you for your patience. Please keep me updated on your progress.

Please make sure OS type for VM is set to Windows

It is currently set to Windows in the configuration. Also noted that suspend in the Windows-Shut Down menu is not an option but is an option in my other PD4 machines

Any thoughts here? It simply will not enter coherence mode.

This is two different problems actually. The problem with suspend is the first one and coherence is the second. More detail needed on both problems:

    Suspend. Please:
    1. In Windows, right-click "My Computer", select Properties.
    2. In window opened, select Hardware->Device Manager
    3. Expand "Computer".
    4. What does it read? Could be "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" or "ACPI Multiprocessor PC" or "Standard PC".

    Coherence. Please:
    1. Browse to Start->Run in Windows.
    2. Type "services.msc" and hit Return.
    3. In window opened locate "Parallels Coherence Service"
    4. What is its Status and Startup Type?
    5. If Status is not "Started", try starting it by the appropriate menu item found by right-clicking the service name. What will be the result?
