Upgrading the guest OS - Any special steps?

If one installs Windows 98 in a workstation and then decides to upgrade to XP, will it still work properly in the 98 Workstation?

Please don't suggest installing the XP to begin with, since the XP disk is an upgrade and not a full install.

Haven't tried it, but I would think that it should work properly if you modify the VM guest type and are sure to reinstall the Parallels tools.

I could be mistaken, but I thought there was a way to do a clean install with an upgrade CD. It has been a while, but I thought you could put the Win 98 CD in at some point to prove that you had a valid 98 CD.
