Upgrading to Build 5582, can't install upgrade after uninstalling

Hello,

After downloading the latest version 5582 and following the instructions, the upgrade just hangs at "running parallels desktop installer script". I tried the procedure in the knowledge base, "Problems When Installing or Running Parallels Desktop", and I am still having the same issue. What am I doing wrong? My frustration level is mounting.

I have a Macbook Pro, 2.33 GHz core 2 duo, 2 GB ram 160 GB HDD with ~ 100GB free.

I have not had an issue with parallels to this point (started using it in June) I recently upgraded to Leopard as well

I'm having the same problem. I recently upgraded to Leopard and the 5582 Parallels upgrade hangs at "running parallels desktop installer script". I uninstalled Parallels and now trying to install either build 5160 and 5582 hangs in the same place.

The last couple lines in the install log are:

I found this post in another thread, seems to work, I have the latest version installed:

Installer Hangs- finally corrected I found a post that solved my problem finally. It works through terminal. I am a non techie person and have never used terminal but this is a copy and paste and it does work. I wish Parallels would make it not necessary with a revision to the installation process but it does work. Just follow the directions below that I copied and pasted here.

"I'm installing Parallels for the first time, experienced this problem, and this
solution fixed it for me.

The command line operations (suitable for copy/paste) are:

cd "/Volumes/Parallels Desktop/Install Parallels Desktop.pkg/Contents/Resources"
sudo ./preflight

Try copying and pasting the above command into terminal at the prompt. I would start the installer and when it hangs simply open terminal and paste the above command in at the prompt and it asked for my password and then the installer script would go and the program almost finished loading before I could get back to the installer screen.
 
Install fails "Can't add kext"

Ultimately the solution for me was actually to kill the "named" process during the install.

Process:

Start the Installer.

When it hangs (within the first few seconds) go to Activity Monitor and Kill the "named" process.

The installer would continue, eventually it would hang again much later in the install.

Again, go to Activity Monitor and Kill the "named" process.

Then it will finished.

The "named" service parent service is "Internet Sharing". I did not have this enabled in the GUI but after I check and unchecked this service in the System Preferences -> Sharing Tab the "named" (bind) did not start automatically at reboot.

I've check all of my other macs and "named" is not running by default, but was on the machine I had the installer failure on.

If you look at all of your console messages, immediately after the the install fails the "named" process is started or called and logs a bunch errors.

I didn't dig into the install script to see if it i making a call that causes this but it seems like it.

To summarize - During the install, kill the "named" process via Activity Monitor each time it is launched and you will be fine. Or check and uncheck the "Internet Sharing" in System Preferences -> Sharing Tab. (even if it is turned off).
