This problem also plagued me in beta 5. I cannot get the VM to attach my 'cruzer' flash drive. When I plug it in I get the message about the device performing better on a usb 2 port, so the VM seems to have detected it. But the cruzer never appears under "my computer" (or anywhere else), and when I unplug it I do not get a the windows warning message about improperly disconnecting a device. BTW, the flash is not mounting under OS X, so that's not the problem either.
