Hi all! I am using Macbook 12 (with a single USB-C port only) + either Apple USB-C to USB-A adapter or Apple USB-C to Multiport adapter. In either case when I connect a USB device (USB-stick or USB HDD) and select "Connect it to Parallels" - nothing happens. I am able to see the stick when I connect it back to Mac (and I see that HDD is connecting - though I can't see the content because it's EXT4 filesystem). dmesg shows nothing interesting, sudo lsusb just hangs. usb-devices freezes after printing three lines. Any suggestions please?
Hi, try to disable the USB 3.0 in the VM Configuration -> Hardware -> USB -> Advanced settings. Likely the trouble is because Parallels Desktop doesn't fully support yet the devices with UAS-protocol enabled on linux.
Thank you Elric, I've tried this, but the issue remains even with USB 2.0 selected. I see that AbdullahA4 has solved an issue with upgrading to Version 12, but I've just bought a version 11 (one week prior to the 12 version release) and don't want to upgrade for a fee. Do you have something like a customer protection?
OK, Eric, I have upgraded to V12, disabled USB 3.0 - now it's better, because system can see the USB drive, but it still doesn't connect it. Here dmesg output: [ 128.724796] usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 3 using ehci-pci [ 128.861734] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0bc2, idProduct=2312 [ 128.861739] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 [ 128.861741] usb 1-1: Product: Expansion [ 128.861743] usb 1-1: Manufacturer: Seagate [ 128.861744] usb 1-1: SerialNumber: NA441QFV [ 128.883958] scsi host9: uas [ 150.080022] scsi 9:0:0:0: tag#0 uas_eh_abort_handler 0 uas-tag 1 inflight: CMD [ 150.080027] scsi 9:0:0:0: tag#0 CDB: Inquiry 12 00 00 00 24 00 [ 150.080103] scsi host9: uas_eh_bus_reset_handler start [ 150.192325] usb 1-1: reset high-speed USB device number 3 using ehci-pci [ 150.325162] usb 1-1: device firmware changed [ 150.325371] scsi host9: uas_eh_bus_reset_handler FAILED err -19 [ 150.325379] scsi 9:0:0:0: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery [ 150.325482] usb 1-1: USB disconnect, device number 3 [ 150.440332] usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 4 using ehci-pci [ 150.575471] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0bc2, idProduct=2312 [ 150.575476] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 [ 150.575477] usb 1-1: Product: Expansion [ 150.575479] usb 1-1: Manufacturer: Seagate [ 150.575480] usb 1-1: SerialNumber: NA441QFV [ 150.580582] scsi host10: uas [ 172.097000] scsi 10:0:0:0: tag#0 uas_eh_abort_handler 0 uas-tag 1 inflight: CMD [ 172.097010] scsi 10:0:0:0: tag#0 CDB: Inquiry 12 00 00 00 24 00 [ 172.097125] scsi host10: uas_eh_bus_reset_handler start [ 172.211946] usb 1-1: reset high-speed USB device number 4 using ehci-pci [ 172.349817] scsi host10: uas_eh_bus_reset_handler success [ 172.352109] scsi 10:0:0:0: tag#0 uas_eh_abort_handler 0 uas-tag 1 inflight: CMD [ 172.352116] scsi 10:0:0:0: tag#0 CDB: Test Unit Ready 00 00 00 00 00 00 [ 172.352119] scsi host10: uas_eh_bus_reset_handler start [ 172.468007] usb 1-1: reset high-speed USB device number 4 using ehci-pci [ 172.605404] scsi host10: uas_eh_bus_reset_handler success [ 172.605411] scsi 10:0:0:0: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery
Solved! After upgrading to V12 almost all USB device start working, except the Seagate 1TB expansion drive. So I disassembled it (found an instruction in youtube how to disassemble the case - it has no screws and is locked via plastic plugs inside) with the credit card, removed the drive itself and connected it via a third-party USB case for SATA drive. Now it's working!
