USB printer not responding in windows XP

I am having a problem saving my printer after shutting down windows XP. Every time I want to print (Canon i9000) in a new windows, I have to uninstall the print driver in windows and reinstall. After reinstallation everything is fine until I close out windows, then the same process all over again. Can anyone make a suggestion? When I try to install using Bonjour, I get a HP driver that does not support 11x17 paper.
