I haven't seen much discussion on this issue, so I guess that not alot of folks are running a Linux VM on Parallels for Mac. I see that there is a partial solution for USB printers (Bonjour) on XP VM's, but is there a solution for Linux? I have a Brother Laser HL-5170DN that SUSE does not even see on Parallels. A normal SUSE install has no problem with it and has native drivers. Any ideas or comments?

Install Bonjour on Linux, and follow basically the same instructions for Windows.
It looks like you will have to compile it from source, as I dont see any packages floating around.
EDIT: apparently there ARE Linux packages for Bonjour. Look for mDNSResponder.

Thanks for the reply. I found the mDNSResponer service and enabled it on SuSE. Here's the thing, my printer (Brother HL-5170DN) supports Rendezvous discovery out of the box (it's a network and a USB printer and both are hooked up), so on OSX for example it is discovered and I just add it. I still cannot see it on SuSE in YaST/hardware/printer with the mDNSResponder service enabled (it is not discovered), so I guess I'll just keep on plugging away at it.

Just a quick update. I was able to get this printer working on a SuSE 10.1 VM by using LPD print directly to the print server IP address. I would have liked to get mDNS working but I think this may be a Parallels issue. mDNS works very well on SuSE 10.1 in a conventional environment. If anyone gets a network printer to be 'discovered' and configured on any Linux VM running on Parallels I'd be interested in hearing details. Luckily this particular laser printer is very flexible and supports many protocols and attachment methods.

I have it on my desktop for Mandriva, but can't work out how to install the thing. I can cd to the directories [I assume the Posix version is the one]. Following the readme, I tried the "make" command, but it wasn't recognised. Would be grateful for any tips.
