Using Image Tool

Hey folks,

I have a question regarding file size of the .hdd file.

I chose to image my physical drive; which is ~115GB.

The resultant parallels image is ~117GB.

I figured perhaps I could try to resize my partition; to something I may want the file to be; i.e. 60GB and then I could wipe my system; reinstall ubuntu; install parallels and live in happy zen.

However, I can't figure out why the .hdd file is always so large? Is it literally virtualizing the free space too?

How can I use image tool; or any other tool for that matter to get a reasonably sized file?

vmware works just fine but I find parallels to be more reliable hence my persistance in this direction.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try first compressing your vm. Open parallels and xp and go to menu above, choose actions, then "run parallels compressor". This tool will resize your vm. It may take a while so be patience.

edit : when you have an expanding virtual disk, it will grow whenever you use it. For example you install and remove something it won't give back the virtual space. This is why you have to compress your vm to gain space.
