Version 6 to 8 upgrade - xp - tools problem

Since upgrading to Lion on my iMac my XP 32 bit VM has become unstable causing intermittent freezes. In desperation I've upgraded my Parallels 6 to 8. My Linux VMs seem ok but my XP VM is a big problem.

The auto Parallels Tools upgrade always fails with a non-specific error message.

I've tried the manual method using parallels-tools-i386.msi and get:

"the wizard was interrupted before parallels tools could be completely installed"

I've tried removing the Tools via Add/Remove Programs and get:

"Fatal error during installation".

Can anyone help?

Have also big problem after upgrade from P6 to P8 concerning my XP VM. The installation of Parallels tools crashed and damaged the VM on disk, cannot boot anymore. Even Windows repair does not work. Win7 is fine so far on two machines.

Make sure to have always a backup when dealing with Parallels.
