My Windows 8 virtual machine is 80Gb by now. I find that strange because all data is shared with my mac. I only use Windows to run some software that is not available for mac. Any hints in how to decrease the size of my VM?

Please check if Smart Guard is enabled, when Smart Guard is enabled it creates automatic snapshots and that consumes much space in the pvm file. To know more about Smart Guard, refer http://kb.parallels.com/5688
