VZAccess and build 5582

In the previous build of Parallels under Leopard, the VZAccess software had no issues and would happily connect to the blackberry 8830.
In build 5582, when attempting to connect the 8830, the connect/disconnect sound is heard continuously, and the VZAccess software states that the 8830 is not present.

Any thoughts? Tried various settings for the virtual machine for the USB port, and turned off the firewall on the mac, but no luck.

The 8830 works fine under OS X using pocketmac.

Same Trouble Here

Finally, someone else that's having the same trouble I am. I was using my blackberry as a tethered modem in Windows and it was working great until I upgraded to 5582.

I turned off the power management in the USB root thinking maybe it was the cause for the constant on/off/on/off...but that didn't help. I rolled back the desktop manager to Verizon's recommended version and that didn't help either.

In addition to the other symptoms described, my 8830 gives me a message now that says USB charging voltage is insufficient. I never saw that before. Blackberry forums say to turn off the mass storage device, which I did on the 8830 in options. That didn't work either.

Help.
 
Hopefully...

Either 10.5.2 fixes the issue (not sure if it is Leopard or Parallels), or some other bright person here knows of a fix.
 
10.5.2 Gets Same Result

I'm running 10.5.2 and build 5582 and I get the same result. No worky.

Thought I was having a hardware problem with the mini USB port on the 8830 until I saw this post.

I don't currently have a workaround. Tried connecting to VZW using bluetooth, and will post a followup if I get it working. Anyone else had success finding a way around this problem?
 
Okay, update:

This doesn't get me the blazing speeds of tethered access, but gets me connected to the internet. In spite of an assertion from a phone rep at Verizon that Verizon does not support "bluetooth tethering with a mac", I was able to get it working. I had already set up the 8830 as a BT DUN Modem, but with one recent upgrade or another, it had failed to log in properly to Verizon's network. So you will obviously need your 8830 provisioned with the Tethering plan from Verizon and then will need to

1. Associate the 8830 with the Mac
2. Once you have a bluetooth connection between the 8830 and the Mac, go into the network settings, click on Set up BlueTooth Device, then edit the modem manufacturer to Vodaphone. There is only one model (VC701SI), select it.
use the same dial up settings as in VZAccess:

Make sure Show Bluetooth Status in Menu bar and Show Modem Status in Menu Bar are checked. It will make it easier to see the network connection in the next step.

3. Turn off your Airport, and then connect to the internet using the modem (you should see the phone icon in the menu bar. For me, that produced a successful connection from the Mac to the phone.

4. Now to allow parallels to use that connection, change the network settings to Shared Networking. Depending on whether you did this set up with an already open session, you may need to go into windows network settings, right click on the network connection, and hit repair to get a new IP address.

Ultimately I ended up with networking under both the Mac OS and in my Windows XP session under parallels. The connection appears to stay up (42 mins and counting at speeds that will support at least internet browsing).
