What happens to Win7 VM with "clean" install of Yosemite?

I'm planning a clean install of Yosemite.
On previous Mac's I had used Bootcamp with Parallels to run Windows so the partition was unaffected.
What will happen now that Win7 was installed without Bootcamp?
If I do a clean install, and it erases the Win7 VM (as I suspect) is there a method of restoring it once Yosemite is up an running?

Backup/copy the .pvm to an external drive, put it back in after installing.
