Why do I pay extra for EDS?

No offence but I do feel it's pushing your luck a little to charge for something like this. Where as most vendors will provide a serial number if proof of purchase can be provided and or I can do my own backups to ensure I can recover my system so just why would I want to pay $6.99 for what looks to be mandatory insurance?

Q. How can I purchase the product without paying for this insurance?
 
Just decline it. You can always download the latest version from the Parallels site. The "insurance" is part of the offering of the outside vendor they use to collect money and apparently can't be turned off.

All you need is the key. Even if you don't get the download, you can get it at the Parallels site free whether you have a key or not.
 
You don't have to pay for it. All GA builds will be always available on our site.

This is additional and optional offer from Digital River (who is responsible for payments processing) not from Parallels.
