Why is my "add hardware" + symbol grayed out?

I have just installed PD4 and I am trying to connect a new printer using the printer attached to the mac OS. The first step is virtual machine menu>configure and then click + to get the "add hardware" assistant. The + symbol is grayed out, so I can't get past step one.

(Interestingly, my VM's name, OS type and version (XP pro) are grayed out as well).

Anyone got the solution to this? I can't print from Windows at the moment and it's a showstopper for a windows-only app. that I am using.

Running iMac 24" OS 10.5.8, 2.66ghz C2D, XP Pro and PD4.
 
Hello,

To add devices and make changes in the Virtual Machine you need to shut down the VM and then make the changes, if not shut down then some of the options will be grayed out
