Why isn't Parallel Tools supported on latest distros?

I know that the supported distros are clearly stated on "Workstation 6" webpage, but I am still sort of surprised that not even Ubuntu 12.04 is supported (or even possible without a major hack).

Can anyone explain to me why? It is the kernel right? Something about Parallels supports the old kernel.

Could someone from the Parallels Team give any insight as to whether or not the major distros will eventually be supported in Workstation 6?
