Will someone help me....please! im new to mac..

im new to mac, and i downloaded this parallels program to run windows xp on it, but its not working. all it keeps doing is have me do a system restore everytime i try to run it. do you know what im doing wrong?:confused:
 
Sounds like the problem is with Windows. I've had this problem on stand-alone windows before and never figured out what caused it. I ended up reinstalling Windows to solve the problem. Sorry I can't be of more help.
 
no i never got into windows at all. when i first set up the vm it did a full system restore, and it says to restart. i restart it in the paralles window, and when it comes back up, it forces me to enter the set up area to do a full system restore all over again...:confused:
 
This sounds to me like XP was not installed corrected or allowed to finish installing. It sounds like when it boots it basically is in a state that wants to restore from CD.

On booting can you hit F8 and get to the boot menu? Can you boot into safe mode? I've never tried that on Parallels... It might not even work.

im trying to run windows xp home edition. i installed it from a system restore disk. yes i can use f8 to enter which mode i want to start up with, but it still doesnt work. i tried all the different modes and still nothing. it just stops. in safe mode, all this stuff comes up over and over its just repeated all the way down. and stops. *sigh*:confused:
 
From a restore disk?

Those diskes are usually created by the manufacturer of the computer and are usually keyed to the hardware and possibly invoke files that are stored on a hidden partition on the hard disk of said hardware.

You need a full install CD
 
You'll need to purchase one. They can be found on eBay, various software resellers on the internet, CompUSA, CostCo, SamsClub, many many other places. Anywhere Microsoft is sold!

This would mean that replacing a failed hard drive would be impossible since the "hidden" files would not be present on a new disk. This would be irresponsible on a vendor's part, and probably doesn't happen. Keying to a detectable hardware configuration is possible if it looks for something on the motherboard or in the BIOS (such as a copyright string).

The conclusion (you need a full install CD) is probably correct though.

I think is was Mark Twain who said something like "It ain't the things you don't know that get you into trouble. It's the things you know that ain't so." (And I'm not picking on any one individual here -- I see a large number of statements on this and other forums that are actually wild guesses, not facts.)

Apparently you havent been following what the industry has been doing with the recovery situation.

here are some example of what they are doing and how they are getting special not complete OS licenses from MS to bring down system costs.

humm here is how to make a recovery CD from Dell, they dont ship them it is on the hard drive.
