It seems like the Mac version of Parallels is getting all the attention lately. Will there be any futher support for the Windows/Linux version or is it going to get lost underneath the more lucrative Mac version? For example look at the big Mac version banner at the top of the page, and when you move the mouse over Download all you see is the Mac version and the Compressor. Parallels must be making a lot more money off the Mac version than the Windows version. Will Windows users be left out in the cold?

I found both in concert quite useful. I use Workstation 2.1 to create the Windows 3.1 VM that I use on my Mac Mini. I cound not do it with just Desktop alone. I simply copied the image from one machine (my PC) to the other machine (my Mac) after the VM is created. I also burned a base image of the Windows 3.1 Parallels VM to a CD-Rom.

I think you are seeing several things interacting at the same time to give the appearance of no focus on the Windoze/Linux version.
The most important aspect is the quality and speed with which Parallels hit the market. Most of the issues you see from the Linux/Windoze side were dealt with by support before there was a forum.
The failure of Win4Lin to get to market with a usable product just as Parallels was being introduced brought on-board a huge number of people with experience and knowledge about what to expect and how to deal with it. People who had tried other similar solutions also knew.
At least from the Linux host point of view, the users are much more knowledgable about networking so generate less buzz. Even the windoze users who are exploring Linux are more inclined to become network aware as opposed to having it handed to them. Video setup is another area where Linux many folks have knowledge beyond excepting whatever is auto-configured - to say nothing of the multitudes of different video cards and monitors that have to be dealt with. Those two subjects alone account for multitudes of posts on the Mac and wherever else forums.
Software compatibility issues weren't even a topic in the Mac world, so it gets a lot of misunderstanding and expectations posted too. People who have been running windoze under emulator/virtualizer conditions for years come to Parallels with realistic expectations brought about by experience.
My concern is price vs. support cost parity. Based on the number of posts by Parallels folk in these forums, the Windoze/Linux version should cost 1/2 of what the Mac version does. And if they drag Parallels off into to their land very far, are we going to be paying for their version development costs in many cases for features/compatibility with OSX that are meanless to the other platforms? Just take a look at the WishLists forum.....

With the download link at the top of the page, it is only when in the forum that Workstation is not available. On the parallels.com page Workstation is available under download.
Parallels must have to do everything they can to sell Desktop and pay for all the support.;-)

Could it just possibly be that the Mac version push is happening mainly because it's brand new? Could it be that Parallels feels that they've gotten the attention of the Linux and Windows host folks, and haven't reached the Mac folks yet? And given that Apple is mentioning Parallels on their site, could it be that Parallels is seizing the moment to capitalize on the buzz?constant said:

Guys - we are working on all 3 primary OSes simulteneously - Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Virtualization engine is the same for all products and it takes about 70% of the development resources.jimjoe said:
