Folks... my Windows7 VM on Parallels 6 (Build 6.0.12106) is losing its network/internet connection it seems every 24-36 hours or so. When I am connected and everything is fine, I am connected to 'Network 2'. I am running Parallels in Bridged mode on my Mac Pro, and using one of the two ethernet connections.

When I lose connectivity, it shows that I am connected to an 'Unidentified Network'. If I open my browser, it seems to connect to my 'home' site on IE, but I cannot access anything after that point.

I have not installed any new software on the Windows7 VM, however, I have upgraded to Mac OSX Lion within the last month or so.

    Help is appreciated
    Brandon

Please when next time you meet this issue click Start -> Run and execute cmd.exe. Type in the appeared window command "ipconfig /all" (make sure that all output fits to the window). Then, without closing the window, click Parallels Destkop menu "Help"->"Report a Problem", send a problem report (it is not necessary to provide description) and post here the report ID.

The problem ID is 11249533... thanks for helping

As an FYI, I kept a comparison TXT file, of before (successful) and after (lost connection) of the 'ipconfig / all' and it appears that the output is exactly the same.

Strange.. I don't see at the first look any problems in Parallels components - packets are sent and received from VM.

How do you fix this? Do you reboot VM or some another way?

It would be interesting to see the output of commands (in the cmd.exe)
    ping 192.168.1.1
and (it is ip-address of one of the parallels servers)
    ping 64.131.89.6

Also it is interesting to know whether disconnect for few moments network from VM (icon at the bottom-right of Parallels window) and connect it back fixes the situation. Also, whether switch to shared networking (after problem happens) and staying in Shared Networking corrects the problem.

Ok... here are answers to your questions...

    - I have to reboot the VM to get web connectivity again... that always works, but very frustrating
    - when i pinged 192.168.1.1 (router), I got a reply from 192.168.1.8 (MY RESERVED IP for the WIN7 VM) that the "Destination host unreachable"
    - when I pinged 64.131.89.6, I got "Request time out", then right under that got "Reply from 192.168.1.8: Destination host unreachable"... than Ping statistics of Packets Sent =4, Received =3, Lost =1.
    - When I tried your suggestion to disconnect (bottom right of Parallels window), it shows the RED X on the Win7 icon, then when I connected again, it gave the blue Win7 network icon ilke it was trying, then went to the Yield sign again... NO CONNECTION

Strange.. No one have not reported anything like this so far.

    Two more things:

    1) please post here the output of the command "netstat -nr" when next time you'll see this problem

I'd really appreciate to see the results of the command above, but if it is not a parallels issue but something in Windows, then the next will not have any effect:

    2) Configure VM to emulate e1000 network adapter (warning, may be you will need to reconfigure again IP-address if you have staticall assigned in vm). To do so follow the steps in the http://kb.parallels.com/en/9041 but instead of devices.net.force_adapter_type=rtl there should be devices.net.force_adapter_type=e1000

Hmm... I've just looked more closely to the problem report and see the next things in the systen-log:

    Nov 19 01:10:38 interface en1 (192.168.1.11)
    ...
    Nov 19 05:11:33 interface en0 (192.168.1.10)

So, you have two network interfaces and both are sometimes connected and sometimes not.

In the VM you have specified that VM shoud bind to "Ethernet 2" (not to default). And in the logs I see that it sometimes goes offline. Could it be so that Mac in this case contines to connect to network via Ethernet 1 and VM since it is hard-bound to Ethernet 2 cann't connect due to this? May be specifying "Default" will help..

And I'd suggest you to consider to connect to one network (192.168.1.x) only via one of the adapters (say Ethernet 1) and disconnect another one from network permanently. In my expierence the current configuration of networking could lead to really wierd problems..

    I think I've solved it... I think...

Folks... I changed my network adapter for Win7 from 'Ethernet 2' to 'Default Adapter', and it seems to be working consistently. It seems that the VM went off-line ONCE since I changed it 10 days ago.

I will keep you posted on this.

Could this effect me being able to Remote Desktop into Windows? I am going to be setting this VM to be Remote Desktop machine. I am concerned that changing it from Ethernet 2 might cause inconsistencies.

I have also been having the same problem. I can't tell if it is only happening when I run VPN on my client OS or is it just happens intermittently.

I have submitted a support ticket. I will keep you guys posted.

I know this is old news and all, but I am experiencing the same issue with Win 7 connectvitity on Parallels.
I use Quicken, and when I synchronize Quicken, it will tell me that there is no internet and that I need to connect via "dial up." and brings up the Create a Connection window or whatever. Since I know there is already a connection, I open Internet Explorer, a website appears, close IE, and then I can synchronize Quicken.
I used Windows XP on both VMWare and Parallels for 5 years. 2 for VMWare and 3 for Parallels. No issue like this before.
I just installed Windows 7 this past month and am having this issue constantly.

I, too, switched my Network Adapter 1 to Default (it was set to Wifi). But I dont think this is the resolve, to be honest. Especially since you reported that it occurred yet again (Even only once). Therefore, I also made a change to the Network adapter properties.

This is something that I am going to try: It may take a couple days to determine if the issue is resolved or not.
    1. Device Manager
    2. Network adapters > Intel (R) PRO/1000 MT Network Connection > Properties
    3. Power Management tab
    4. Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power > Uncheck.
