Windows 7 64bit: Time sync not working properly

Hi,

VMware Fusion 3 is working very faulty (performance, BSOD) so I'm validating your software .

The performance is outstanding so far. I migrated my Fusion 3 machine with Transporter (prior to migration I uninstalled VMware Tools and rebooted the machine several times). Everything seems to work.

What's not working:

1) Parallels Control Center. Can only find it in c:\program files(x86)\parallels\parallels tools, there is no entry in start menu. If I try to start it nothing happens, there is no error nor anything else.

2)Time Sync. Because I can't use Parallels Control Center I'm not able to configure time sync with host system I think?
When I resume my suspended machine the time is left at the moment the machine was suspended. I'm in a customer network and not able to use a NTP server.

Already uninstalled and installed Parallels Tools several times but no success. How can we track down this problem? My evaluation period is ending in 5 days and I want to be sure that my new machine is working properly before I'll buy a license.

Regards,

Stephan

Hello,

1) Did you notice any problems when reinstalling Parallels Tools?
2) Do you mean prl_cc.exe is not present in Task Manager process list when VM is running?
3) could you please boot your VM, than generate the problem report (top menu -> Help -> Report a problem) and tell me the number?

Hi,

1) No, the install process finishes fine.
2) In task manager the process is visible, but there is no gui or systray icon
3) The number of the problem record is 1434000

Thanks for the report!

Parallels Control Center
In Parallels Desktop 4 and 5 there is no Parallels Control Center icon in the tray any more (as it was in PD3). So It's normal behavior. I also analyzed your report and didn't find any problems related to PrlCC.

TimeSync
I also found the Time Sync feature is enabled in your VM configuration, and Time sync driver is running in your VM, so it should work fine. But there was a bug in PD5 tools related to timezones in Windows 7 64bit. It will be fixed in next PD5 update, I hope this will fix your problem also.

Hi,

when give the machine some time it seems to sync, thats right :-)

So it is right that I've no opportunity to change settings regarding the Parallels Tools from within the virtual machine?
I can see the process in the task manager but there appears no gui inside my machine.

By default synchronization time is 60 sec, you can change it in VM configuration.

Yes, that is normal, tools do not have gui inside guest any more. All the PD5 tools features now controlled from single place - VM configuration menu in PD5 GUI.

Hi,

OK, now I have unterstood how PD5 Tools are working. But time sync is still a problem.
I resumde my suspended my machine over 30 minutes ago, but there is still date/time from yesterday. Checked VM-Config->Option->Services. The box "Sync with mac" is checked, but there is no time sync at all?! How can we further track down this problem?

Stephan,

Yesterday we released Update2 for PD5 that should fix your problem, please try it and let me know if it help in your case.

Hi,
