WillB, do you shut your computer down at night or other times? I would try that & leave it off for a little while & that might just fix things.
As far as Windows apps that might not run in Parallels, you could set up bootcamp & install Windows there & Install those apps there in bootcamp. & then you can use bootcamp as your virtual machine or I guess you could leave it the way you have it. I have a proprietary co app that requires Windows & "they don't support Mac" or dual boot systems either. So I figured I'd be safest installing it in bootcamp. I had been running it in Parallels & it seemed to be working ok, but maybe that contributed to all the crashes.
Not sure how that works setting up bootcamp after you already have been using the computer. Each time it has been set up for me it was starting from scratch.
One thing I didn't realize after the erase & then when i was reinstalling Windows was that after it is done you need to insert the Apple install disc to install drivers in bootcamp. The Microsoft store people knew that & told me (I had an appt for help there & asked if it was ok if I installed it myself & just asked them for help when prompted to do something I wasn't sure about.
I'm still waiting for a call from the Apple store that all the parts are in. On Wed I talked to the head Genius when I was in for a One to One appt & he said they had all but a HD bracket. Sounds like they are replacing about everything including logic board, RAM, HD & the connectors between them, trying to cover all bases--even though tests did not show a hardware problem. So I'm hoping & praying that the hardware replacement fixes it, but since we really don't know what has caused the crashes they are just following logical steps that they hope will work.
I did get my new WinMob6.5.3 smart phone that I sync to Outlook all set up & activated so I will at least have a reliable phone w email & web (although web on a WinMob smart phone isn't much fun except for mobile sites) while they are working on the computer.
But all this & procrastination has me without having started my income taxes so I think I'll try to get them done before taking it in. I've been mostly working in bootcamp since I have not reinstalled Parallels. A bit of a pain, but it has not crashed again since the 2 previous times. I'm hoping though that my last year's tax return in Turbo Tax got backed up. Windows back up had given me an error message so I just did a mirror back up. I did see the Turbo Tax icon on the mac desktop in the time machine backup so maybe it got backed up there. Apple said it was just a short cut but hoping.
Hope you get yours figured out. I don't know what that wine components is that you mentioned. But if you haven't shut down your computer, try that to see if it clears up the problem. Old trick when computers are acting funny--sort of like restart but sometimes it needs to be off a little longer than a restart. it worked for me when Parallels & bootcamp got messed up after resetting preferences & deleting caches on the Mac side. I think those generally rebuild themselves. But it sure looked scary until I did the shut down & then when I booted up again it had cleared out the garbage that was messing it up & it worked ok.
Some people had also suggested something about it running in Coherence could be more of an issue. I know I got error messages a # of times saying it coudln't open in Coherence, but then I was able to switch back to coherence. So not sure what that was all about. That was a minor annoyance compared to the crashes & all.
I'll have to see how the mac side is doing. Its a pain to have to reboot so have been mostly just in bootcamp lately. But I should see how it is doing. Hope you get yours fixed.
When they do have the mac in the shop, I will still be able to read emails, but not sure how this site would do on a WinMob6.5 phone, most sites are a pain.
