Windows 7 Boot camp and Parallels, (sorry I'm a noob)

Hello, I'm very new to the forums, so if this topic has been posted please let me know.

I installed windows 7 on my MacBook using Boot Camp. I set everything up, but now I want to use parallels as well, but I dont want to delete everything that i put on windows 7 in boot camp.

I found a tutorial online but it didn't really work for me.
Help please?

Hello Jeffery,

Lets try Creating a Virtual Machine with the bootcamp file. This could fix the issue.

1) Open Parallel Desktop. Do not start the Virtual Machine.
2) On the Menu bar click on File, click on the New Virtual Machine.
3) Click on Real CD/DVD ROM and Click Continue.
4) Select the OS type and OS Version and Click Continue.
5) Select Custom and Click Continue.
6) Choose Memory to 512 MB and Click Continue.
7) Click on Bootcamp partition and Click Continue.
8) Select Shared Networking and Click Continue.
9) If you want to enable file sharing then enable it and Click Continue .
10) Click on Done.
 
No go...

I'm also having trouble getting parallels to run my bootcamp win7 partition. It goes through it's initial setup steps then it informs me I'll need to complete the process manually and reboots. However at this point the parallels bios (?) says it's looking for a CD to boot from and stops. I've followed the steps Srinivasulu.V outlines above a few times now, to no avail. Bootcamp starts and runs fine, parallels just can't seems to get started.
 
I am having the same issues. Seems you need to do a Windows Repair (havent tested this yet).
QUite a mission though, because as Parallels reboots, u need to assign your drive to your CD (or ISO), and boot from it, then repair windows. It worked for transporting a VM from bootcamp into a VM, should work for booting from bootcamp partition too
 
Same problem

I have Windows 7 on a boot camp partition. It works fine when booting directly to Windows. When I created a VM using the boot camp partition, Windows hangs, sending a message that it's trying to repair windows.
 
Well i just confirmed from parallels support that win7 is not supported from a boot camp partition yet! Waiting on the technical guys to respond (maybe give timeframes etc), will keep you guys posted!

The same problem seems to persist also in Parallels Desktop 5 beta program, so obviously it is not fixed there yet either. Will wait for further confirmation and schedules.

Apart from that, I'm suffering the exact same issues as the others here with both PD 4 and 5 beta.
 
Apparently it is not 'supported' as Apple does not yet support Windows 7 officialy.

sorry for misleading link.

Windows 7 is not officially supported by Apple Boot Camp, please check Apple KB:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1899

Thus, Parallels Desktop can not support OSes which are not supported by Apple Boot Camp yet. On our website and in documentatjion we state that Parallels Desktop 4 has experimental support of Windows 7 in virtual environment.

More than not just supported

I think it's more of a Parallels issue really, because Win 7, works flawlessly in BootCamp, but blue screens when trying to start in Parallels.

Is this something you are all working on, and in the meantime is there a workaround, if you're willing to go it?
 
Same for me. On step 1 of 4 on the Parallels 5.0 bootup of the VM from my Windows 7 BootCamp partition, the "repair mode" of Windows 7 hangs and is doing this all over again and again. So does anybody have a workaround?
 
I did a cleaninstall of WIndows 7 RTM x64, and using the latest version of parallels, all seems to work fine. I have not done anything as a 'workaround'
 
I'm having problems (see my post on Boot Camp) - did you download the Boot Camp 3.1 upgrade? Are you able to boot Win7 from Boot Camp and through Parallels as well?

I have done the bootcamp 3.1 update, but havent booted into OSX since, but prior to the 3.1 update all worked fine (since i upgraded to parallels 5)
 
Bootcamp and Windows 7 when I start Parallels

Hey,

I am also a noob to Parallels and I am not quite shure what was going on when I installed it.

So I had a win7 bootcamp partition arleady before I installed Parallels.
When I now start Parallels I can choose between 2 machines:

1) Windows Bootcamp
2) Windows 7

Is this okay, or do I some kind of waste recources with that ?
Could I even delete my bootcamp partition?

I have some problems with Win7 and bootcamp too.

I worked with bookcamp before I installed Parallels.

Now I can choose between Bootcamp and Windows7 when I start Paralells.

Is this just normal ? Or a waste of ressources - can I even delete my bootcamp partition ?
