Windows Daylight Savings fix- do we need it?

Hey gang-

Since (I presume) Windows running in a Parallels environment gets its time data from the Mac host, do we need to bother with the Windows patches for the new Daylight Savings Time?

You need DST updates for both OS X and Windows. And for any other VM's you're running. Don't forget to update Java, too.

We've been having long discussions about this at the office - the conclusion was that it is only essential in the US or if you use Outlook and schedule meetings with US colleagues.

Actually, the new 2007 Daylight Saving Time rules for the US and the rest of Canada are already installed as of Mac OS X 10.4.5 or later. See

So, assuming your Mac is already updated, won't Windows running in Parallels take its time from the host Mac? Or is that not how it works?

If all you care about is your windows clocking showing the right time then no worries. However, anything relying on timing will be effected (to some degree.) Like, if you set something to happen 36 hours from now, and so the schederal might get mixed up. Say you use outlook/exchange, and the date is set for one of the effect days. Since the date is stored in utc, (I think, but it doesn't matter, some kinda converson has to happen however it's stored, ) your outlook will convert the date to local time, but get it wrong. Anything that uses time will be effect, your system logger, any sqls your running, etc...
