Hi,
I recognize the fact that although my Windows XP VM is on my mac, it's still suseptible to all the usual viruses etc... The whole "Oh I have windows on my Mac so does that mean I don't need antivirus" is false.
However, (and this might be equally as short sighted) do I need to frequently update my windows XP with the MS security updates? Let me explain my setup a little more: I use my virtual machine strictly for using exclusive Office Applications. I do not browse the web, and I will only send out professional emails that will NEVER contain malicious data. Therefore, do I really need the security updates?
Normally, I realize that if you just put a Windows XP edition without SP1 or any security updates, just by sitting on a network it could contract a worm. If the user just plugged in, and never went to a website, etc... they could still be vulnerable. Now, my question is, if my Windows VM is in "shared network" setup, and I personally will never put it at risk by visiting bad sites, do I need the security updates? Does the fact that my windows VM is hidden to the outside network allow it to remain safe from lurking worms?
Thank you,
TM
