Windows Vista shut down "to prevent damage to your computer"

Help!
I have been using Windows and Parallels just fine on my Mac for a few weeks now, but when I logged in the other day, it said that windows had been shut down due to an error. I restarted the computer like it said, but it didn't work. I tried to go in in safe mode, but I
couldn't even open parallels that way. It said I should reinstall software or hardware or disable caching and shadowing features on BIOS, but I can't get in to do anything! I am running Windows Vista on a Macbook Pro on a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM with Parallels Build 4124. I don't think I've downloaded any software I haven't used yet, although I do have some software I've only been using for a couple of weeks. Could an automatic update in OS/X cause this problem? Can anyone help me? Please? It's taken me forever to get everything I need to run Windows on a Mac so I could run some linguistics software I need for my coursework.

I had the exact same problem but with Windows XP and it was also on a MacBook Pro. I had to reinstall everything. What is worse is that I bought Parallels because I had problems running Windows with Bootcamp after 5 months so this is the second time I have had to reinstall everything. In the first situation when I called AppleCare they said Bootcamp is unrelialable and can cause problems with your Machintosh. My Mac actually was having a number of different problems and the eventually replaced it. When I called AppleCare the second time when Parallels kept telling me 'Windows has detected a problem and is shutting down to prevent damage to your computer' they said Parallels can damage my Machintosh computer and to run BootCamp but that can cause problems, too. Has anybody else had these problems? Are they fixed with the new Leopard? Is it better to use Parallels to access BootCamp? I can't keep reinstalling my program. I am ready to buy a PC for the one program I need to run on a PC.

aandj896, try to reinstall Parallels and it's better to update to 5160 build.
