Windows Xp.pvs seems to be not a valid Parallels virtual machine

Kraken,
snapshots are stored in your .hdd file. So you can move this file to another folder. But then you should open 'Configuration Editor' of your VM ('Edit' -> 'Virtual Machine') -> 'Hard Disk' tab and specify 'Image file' (path to your .hdd file) there.

File (path)/Microsoft Windows XP.pvs keeps getting deleted when my system crashes

Yesterday I received this message "File (path)/Microsoft Windows XP.pvs seems to be not a valid Parallels virtual machine configuration file!". I followed the instructions in this forum and the system worked fine, until this morning when I received the same message again. I created a new machine using the .hdd file and parallels is once again working, but I don't want to have to do this everyday.

Can someone explain to me why this is happening? My computer crashed this morning, as it did the previous morning, but my virtual machine wasn't running either time. I installed Parallels two days ago, and since then my macbook has crashed more in 2 days that it did in the entire year previous to that. Did I do something wrong in the installation, or is there something I can do to make the system more stable?

Please help

I have been doing all the step above however, when I select the winxp.hdd file I got an error "file corrupted"
The size of my hdd is about 20 GB an have all my info. Please try to help me.
 
Backup!!! Virtual Machine , including winxp.hdd
Try to perform operations described in http://kb.parallels.com/en/4680

Please perform backup of Virtual Machine using one of the suggestions in
Parallels Desktop for Mac user guide from
http://www.parallels.com/en/download/file/doc/Parallels_Desktop_for_Mac_User_Guide.pdf
on page 243, e.g cloning Virtual Machine, or simply copying Virtual
machine folder (when Parallels Desktop is in stopped state), such
operations if incorrectly performed can lead to data loss.
 
HDD now complete

Thanks for your help. Now I can mount my Windows XP HDD, however now my problem is the Windows XP.pvs file.
When I try to start Windows I get this error message: "File /Users/mescalon/Documents/Parallels/Microsoft Windows XP/Microsoft Windows XP.pvs seems to be not a valid Parallels virtual machine configuration file!

I trried to follow the other step published here but It ask me for the Windows XP CD, and now I am traveling out of the country!!

Create new VM(using custom configuration), and add that windowsxp.hdd, do not start installation
