windvd/intervideo 8 doesn't work in 5582

WINDVD version 8 gets error message "Can't create overlay, decrease color depth or display resolution" when trying to play a dvd. windvd version 7 plays dvd's but crashes when trying to capture a screen.

Both versions tried with and with out "experimental" shaders enabled

for version 8, numerous color depths and screen resolutions were attempted, coherence, full screen, and windowed all tried.

I know that 5582 is "not supported", but this is also an issue in the released version of 3.0.
How does one know if an issue is going to be addressed? This app works on a old system that has a generic vga card. So this is not something fancy with 3d and all the other extensions video vendors have added in the last few yers.
