I am new to Apple Macs (and Parallels) etc. I see that in a text document etc running under the Apple OS it is possible to go forward or back a word at a time using alt (options key)+Right arrow or alt (options key)+Left arrow. But for any Windows program under Parallels these short-cuts do not work. Is there a way to have these (or equivalent) shortcuts available in Parallels? Running Windows XP Professional in Parallels in Desktop 7 for Mac (Build 7.0.15054).
The default keyboard combo in Windows to move the cursor one word left or right is Ctrl+[arrow key]. Alt+[arrow key] is used for different things in Windows, mostly moving forward or back in your web browser history or in the file system when viewed in Explorer. While you could certainly use a Windows utility like AutoHotkey to remap Alt+[arrow key] to match the Mac environment, doing so would be complicated, and would require remapping an awful lot of the keyboard (once you remap Alt+[arrow key], you'll have to remap Ctrl+[arrow key], and then there are all the Cmd+[something] combos in Mac that would become Winkey+[something] in Windows, etc. etc.). You're much better off just getting your grey matter used to different key combos for the different environments. Cheers,
The answer to my question is: forward word a time: In Apple: Alt+right - In Parallels: ctrl+cmd+right back word a time: In Apple: Alt+left - In Parallels: ctrl+cmd+left
