XP Boot up Incredibly slow

we are running paralells on mac osX with a windows xp vm. parallels starts fine and i click on "start windows xp". it goes through the bios sequence and then i get a blank screen. it stays that way for about 45 minutes until xp finally starts (the horizontal line). what can i do to fix this issue? i should not have to wait 45 minutes for xp to start.
