XP conversion from vmware stuck/broken. Can't stop parallels!

Hi,

I've converted bootcamp just fine, but the XP VM has now been stuck on 'stage 1 of 4' for 4 hours. It appears to be hung - the FAQ says half an hour (which is about what my bootcamp partition took).

If I try to close the window it stops me. If I try to quit parallels it stops me.. Before I hit the big switch and hard reboot this mac is there any way at all to make this work? I'm not that keen on just rebooting when there are running apps.
