XP Internet Connection on Mac OS

Just installed Beta 5 on a Mac Book Pro (Intel). Guest OS is Win XP. Only I know nothing about XP - used to be a Win user long time ago but never installed it before today. I skipped the part where it asks you to set up the internet connection but then when I installed Quicken for Windows (which is the main reason I'm trying out Parallels) I found out Quicken needs the internet connection.

My internet connection on the Mac is SBC Yahoo DSL, going through a DSL modem using PPPoE. I have no idea what the setting should be on XP.

If anyone could help, I'd be grateful!

Quicken Internet Connection through Cable Modem/Router

If you have Quicken installed on the VM in a Win XP environment, then try this (which I extracted from the Quicken Help feature in Quicken for Windows)

In Quicken, click Edit/Preferences/Internet Connection Setup

When the next options screen appears, click "Use my computer's internet connections settings to establish a connection when the application accesses the internet

That should do it, but if you need to fine-tune the connection, then click the Advanced option and make whatever adjustments are appropriate for your connection (cable, server connection, DSL, direct dialup, whatever)

I hope this helps. My version of Quicken (2005) picked up the connection automatically when I tried to connect (i.e., I didn't even have to bother with the settings - just click to connect and go). My internet connection is direct connect thru a router/cable modem and cable.

Maybe you've already tried this. If not, then I hope this helps. It worked for me.

This reply may not be particularly helpful. It's only to say that the principal reason I have had any interest in WinXP was to run Quicken since the Mac version is so unacceptable.

Having said that, I did nothing special to install Quicken (2005, Premier) and have it connect to the Internet to use Quicken BillPay. The WinXP VM works fine on all Internet connect activities including Quicken.
