XP locks for minutes at a time?

On startup and during times in the day, XP locks up to 100% and nothing seems to work. Then magically it works again. Is this due to something in Parallels? I have 640MB allocated to XP. Thanks.
 
Check the sys event logs to see what processes are running during that time,

also, run msconfig (Start -> Run -> type msconfig and hit enter-) and check what startup items and Services are running.

Actually you may be able to walk though this blog post, so that you can trim down some unnessary programs which starts at startup...
