I cannot unmute the sound on my XP VM. unticking the mute brings only a fraction of a second of audio (although none is playing!).
occasionally, un-muting will work for 5 seconds and will mute again by itself.
This seems to be related to Windows losing focus. The system is self-muting in conjunction with losing focus. Regardless of this undesired muting, active windows become inactive every 5 seconds or so. This happens even when a single program is running so I cannot tell which program is stealing the focus.
I have Intel audio controller and the system says its working fine and up to date.
I already used spybot search and destroy but it did not help with the auto mute problem. tried to install a different audio controller but that did not help as well.
Any idea how can I troubleshoot this?
