Howdy, I'm running a Win XP (SP3) VM in Parallels 4.0, and having issues with the amount of RAM the VM is using. I've got 4 GB on my Mac (ok, so it uses 3.something), and set the RAM setting in the Parallels Preferences menu to something like 2048 MB. Regardless of what I set it to here, when I start up the VM, it still only uses 512 MB (as displayed briefly during start up and also under the system properties while running). Anybody got ideas about how to have these darn settings stick? 512 MB isn't enough to do anything useful for me. Thanks! -Josh
Hello JoshuaM, Please shut down the virtual machine and try these options: Click on the configure button in the virtual machine window and choose Memory. There you will be able to change the settings of the memory. http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v4/docs/en/Parallels_Desktop_Users_Guide/22626.htm Let me know if you have any other issues.
Thank you! That totally worked. So, what's the point of the Memory setting window in the Preferences menu?
Help. I must be doing something wromg. As soon as I shiut down the virtual machine as it instructs it shuts everything down and then of course I have no access to the configuration option you refer to.....I am not dim witted. I just cant figure this out. Help please.
