Xubuntu 9.10 - No Login Screen

Two weeks ago I upgraded to Parallels for Mac to 4.0: I know, very late. I then installed the Parallel Tools for Xubuntu. Now, do not get a Login Screen. It is as if the box to enter user name and then password is just below my open window. I have gotten the user window a few times but I cannot recreate this with any reliability.

Yesterday I downloaded the 129 Mb Parallels update with no joy for this issue.

Any recommendations would be appriciated.
